To stop the Cluster service

1. Open Cluster Administrator.
2. In the console tree, click the node.
3. On the File menu, click Stop Cluster Service.

• To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. In addition, your account must be added to the security descriptor for the Cluster service. To do this, you can use Cluster Administrator or cluster.exe. For more information, see "To give a user permissions to administer a cluster" and "Cluster" in Related Topics. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

• When you stop the Cluster service on a node, you prevent clients from accessing cluster resources through that node. In this event, all groups move to another node (if the failover policies allow it).

  This set of circumstances may also affect the availability of the cluster. For example, if the node to which the groups failed over fails, and your cluster consists of only two nodes, there will be no other node available to which the groups can then fail over.

• This procedure, stopping the Cluster service, can also be performed in Computer Management, which may be necessary if Cluster Administrator fails. You can also start the Cluster service in Computer Management.
